November is a month for honoring those who knew war personally, whether is is those who fell in battle, or those who came home and who are still fighting to regain the life they had before they knew combat. In the ancient Athenian calendar, the month of Maimakterion, roughly corresponding to November, saw the Athenians making libations to Ares, and sacrificing bulls for Zeus and Hermes in memory of those who fought and died for the freedom of Hellas.

Not all warriors carry physical weapons. Those who proudly step out as themselves pave the way for those who come after them, but in the process, may lose a great deal: their families, their homes, or their physical safety.

All those who have fought need healing. Apollon is a god of healing, generally, and Ares was honored as a deity who helped those who had seen war “walk in the ways of peace” thereafter. During this devotional, we will be focusing on honoring the battles we’ve fought, and the battled fought for us on our behalf, and asking the gods for healing.

What: A magical devotional to honor Ares and Apollon, with prayers for healing trauma.

When: Sunday, November, 17pm (Noon) to 4pm.

Where: Steven’s Creek Park

What to bring: Libations; anything you’d like to burn as an offering; Ceremonial swords, daggers, and weapons to have blessed by Ares; any medications you would like to have blessed by Apollon.

What to wear: We’ll be outdoors, and it’s likely to be chilly. Dress for the weather. The picnic area is not paved, wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes.
